Reasons Why Granite is the Best Aggregate

Lifestyle

There are many aggregates and different people will have their different favourites; however, a lot of people will be in agreement when it comes to granite. For construction experts, the type of material that is used makes a big difference to any project, and here are just a few of the reasons why many specialists consider granite to be the best aggregate.

1.      It's a hard aggregate
Granite is a very hard material, which makes it perfect for a variety of construction projects. It is used very often when making buildings, roads and other constructions, since it is unlikely to break and will not change shape when it is put under pressure, unlike some other materials. However, one of the problems with granite is the fact that it is so difficult to cut or shape. This is, of course, due to the nature of the material and because it is indeed a hard aggregate, but this is one of the downsides of granite. Thanks to ever developing technologies, it is hoped that one day it might be very easy to cut and shape granite.

2.      There is plenty of granite
It's not difficult at all to find granite, and once a large deposit is found, this can usually be mined for a very long time. Countries such as India are well known for their granite mining, and it has boosted India's economy as well as the economies of other third-world countries. Lots of granite is found underneath hills and valleys, so it is very easy for different people to access it.

3.      It doesn't wear easily
This is due to the fact that it is a hard material, as mentioned earlier, but it is also due to the very nature of the material. Apart from being used to construct buildings and roads, it is also used regularly for statues and other sculptures. While other materials would be likely to rot or wear over time, granite isn't like this, which makes it a favourite with artists and sculptors. It doesn't suffer much erosion from wind, rain and other forces of nature, so there's no need to worry about granite constructions which are left outdoors.

4.      It looks good too!

Granite doesn't just act well under pressure and resist erosion, it also looks great! Granite can also look quite different depending on where it has come from – some pieces of granite can even have quite a shiny appearance. Because of this, granite is also popular with interior designers, and it's often found in kitchens and bathrooms of many homes. With different colours and shades and a wealth of it available, it's easy to find just the type you need.
